Ghana’s National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has announced measures that could lead to the removal and auctioning of abandoned vehicles as part of efforts to improve road safety and tackle vehicles left unattended on public roads.
Under the measures, vehicle owners whose cars are abandoned in locations where they obstruct traffic or pose safety risks could face enforcement action. Vehicles that remain unclaimed after the stipulated period may subsequently be removed and auctioned in accordance with the applicable procedures.
The initiative is aimed at reducing road obstructions, improving the safety of motorists and pedestrians, and ensuring that public roads are not used as long-term parking spaces for damaged or non-operational vehicles.
The NRSA is expected to work with relevant authorities to enforce the measures and encourage vehicle owners to take responsibility for vehicles that are no longer in use or have been left stranded on public roads.
