A Ghanaian court has granted GH¢100,000 bail, with no surety, to Charlotte Siaw, the wife of Felix Antwi, a traditional medicine practitioner based in Kasoa, who died after a fire at their residence.
Mrs Siaw was arrested in connection with her husband’s death following 42 years of marriage. She appeared in court and was released on bail as investigations continue.
According to reports, Mr Antwi had lodged a complaint with the police a day earlier, alleging that his wife and two domestic workers had poisoned him. He died the following day in a fire at the family home. Mrs Siaw is said to have escaped the blaze without injury.
Further inquiries, including an autopsy, indicated that Mr Antwi had been assaulted before being burned, investigators say.
Mrs Siaw and the two domestic workers were arrested. The two workers remain in custody. Relatives of the deceased, including the couple’s children, have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision to grant her bail and have called for her to be remanded.
