President John Dramani Mahama has expanded on one of Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s defining messages on African liberation, telling world leaders that the freedom of individual nations is inseparable from the freedom of humanity as a whole.
Addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Mahama recalled Nkrumah’s historic declaration that Ghana’s independence was meaningless unless linked to the total liberation of the African continent.
“Today, from this respected global podium, we must expand that historic truth: The freedom of any nation is insecure unless it is linked to the freedom of all humanity,” he said.

Mahama said the principle should extend beyond national borders, calling for a world where human dignity, rights and inclusion are protected for all.
His remarks placed Nkrumah’s Pan-African vision within a broader global message of solidarity, justice and shared freedom.
