Egypt has received a new CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift helicopter from Boeing, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo announced on Thursday, September 17, describing the delivery as another development in the growing defence and commercial partnership between Egypt and the United States.
The helicopter was formally showcased during the El Alamein International Airshow, held from September 8 to 10, 2026. Boeing displayed the CH-47F alongside the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter and KC-46A Pegasus aerial refuelling tanker, while the Egyptian Air Force presented the newly inducted Chinook during the exhibition.
The delivery forms part of Egypt's acquisition of 12 CH-47F Chinook helicopters from Boeing. Boeing's 2022 annual report records the order for the 12 aircraft, while defence-industry reports have placed the value of the programme at approximately $426 million.
The CH-47F Chinook is a twin-rotor, heavy-lift, multi-mission helicopter designed to transport troops, equipment and cargo. It can also support missions including search and rescue, casualty evacuation, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. The F-model features a modernised digital cockpit and advanced cargo-handling capabilities.
The new helicopters will expand and modernise the Egyptian Air Force's heavy-lift capabilities. Egypt previously operated the older CH-47D Chinook, and the new CH-47F fleet represents an upgrade to a more modern variant of the platform.
With the delivery, Egypt joins the growing number of countries operating the CH-47F, strengthening its heavy-lift aviation capabilities for military transport as well as humanitarian and emergency-response missions.
