Dr Zanetor Engages IAEA Chief on Ghana’s Nuclear Science Development
Ghana’s Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has engaged the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the country continues efforts to strengthen the development and application of nuclear science.
The engagement forms part of Ghana’s broader collaboration with the IAEA on nuclear science and technology, including areas that support national development.
Ghana has been working with the IAEA on the peaceful application of nuclear technology, with cooperation covering areas such as energy, healthcare, agriculture and scientific capacity building. The IAEA describes Ghana as a partner in using nuclear science for socio-economic development.
The country is also advancing preparations for its nuclear power programme, with international technical support contributing to work around safety, infrastructure, expertise and site development.
Dr Zanetor’s engagement comes shortly after she assumed responsibility for the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology. The ministry says her leadership will cover Ghana’s environmental management, science and technology policy direction.
The discussions with the IAEA leadership are expected to support Ghana’s continued efforts to build scientific capacity and expand the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
