Tanzanian singer Nandy has been fined approximately $1,100 (TSh 3 million) by the country’s National Arts Council, BASATA, over the outfit she wore while performing at the Miss Universe Tanzania 2026 final in Dar es Salaam.
BASATA ruled that the attire was indecent and violated regulations on artistic performances, specifically standards protecting the dignity of viewers. The performance took place at Haddypro Hall during the pageant’s finale.
According to the council, Nandy admitted the violation. She removed the video of her performance from her social media platforms and paid the fine in full. As a result, she has been permitted to continue her music career and other artistic activities, though she will remain under BASATA’s supervision.
The organiser of Miss Universe Tanzania, Millen Privé & Co. Lifestyle Limited, was also fined approximately $1,100 (TSh 3 million) over the same incident and received a stern warning.
The sanctions form part of a broader enforcement action by BASATA targeting alleged breaches of Tanzania’s artistic and moral standards by performers and event organisers.
Nandy, whose full name is Faustina Charles Mfinanga, is one of Tanzania’s prominent Bongo Flava artists. The council’s decision underscores its ongoing role in regulating public performances and content in the country’s entertainment industry.
