A roadside trader identified as Janet has died after a forklift allegedly lost its brakes and crashed into a group of traders at the Brewery Traffic Light in Kumasi.
The incident happened at the busy Asokwa intersection, a common spot for informal vendors. Eyewitnesses said the forklift veered out of control and struck people and stalls. Janet suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
Police have impounded the forklift and begun investigations into the alleged brake failure. The operator is assisting with inquiries.
The crash disrupted traffic and damaged goods. It has again highlighted the dangers faced by roadside traders at busy junctions, where heavy vehicles and informal selling often mix.
