Former Senator representing Katsina South in Nigeria, Bello Mandiya, has died at the age of 62.

Mandiya died on Monday, September 7, 2026, according to a statement issued by Ibrahim Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda.

Governor Radda described the death as a major loss to Katsina State and Nigeria, expressing shock and sadness over the senator’s passing.

“I received with shock and deep sadness the news of the death of Senator Bello Mandiya. His passing is a great loss to Katsina State and Nigeria,” the governor said.

Mandiya served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari before entering the National Assembly.

He was elected to the Senate in 2019, representing Katsina South, and served until 2023.

The governor said Mandiya dedicated part of his life to public service and served the people with commitment.

“Senator Mandiya dedicated part of his life to public service and served our people with commitment. His contributions will remain remembered,” Radda added.
