A massive fire has razed a 15-bedroom house and destroyed GH₵100,000 in cash at Gomoa Dominase in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region. The property belonged to Nana Kweku Botwe, the Abusuapayin of the town.
The fire, which consumed the entire house and other valuables, could not be contained due to non-functional fire tenders in nearby towns — Winneba, Apam, and Swedru.
Nana Kweku Botwe expressed frustration, saying the tragedy could have been avoided if the fire service had responded in time. “We called all the stations, but they said their machines haven’t worked for months,” he told Adom News.
Assembly Member Patrick Abeka has urged the government to urgently repair and equip local fire stations to prevent future losses. “This isn’t the first time lives and properties have been lost due to faulty fire tenders. The government must act quickly,” he said.
