The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department has crushed a 2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat, valued at $100,000, as a public warning against illegal street racing and reckless driving. The high-powered SUV was seized during the 2024 Street Rod Nationals after authorities found it had stolen parts, including its engine.
Due to liability concerns and ineligibility for auction or police use, the vehicle was destroyed at the department’s impound lot. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg oversaw the crushing, emphasizing the city’s zero-tolerance stance on dangerous street activity.
“This isn’t just about one car,” officials stated. “It’s about protecting lives and restoring order.” Since enforcement efforts began in 2023, 167 vehicles have been seized under the city’s ordinance. Authorities say the crackdown will continue: “We’re watching. We’re acting. And we’re not backing down.”
