Law enforcement agents shot and killed a man attempting to breach the secure perimeter of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida early Sunday morning. The suspect, a man in his 20s reportedly carrying a shotgun and fuel can, approached the north gate around 1:30 a.m. local time.
Trump was in Washington, DC at the time, and no other protectees were on-site. Secret Service agents, joined by a Palm Beach County deputy, confronted the individual, who raised his weapon. All fired upon him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, from North Carolina and recently reported missing, reportedly traveled south with a shotgun before the incident. Investigations into his background, motives, and the use of force are ongoing, led by the FBI, with assistance from the Secret Service and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
This marks the latest in a series of attacks and plots targeting Trump, including a recent assassination plot at a Florida golf course and a campaign rally shooting in Pennsylvania in 2024.
Authorities continue to investigate.
