FIFA Opens New Regional Office in Morocco to Boost African Football Development

In a landmark moment for African football, FIFA has officially inaugurated a new regional office in Rabat, Morocco. The opening ceremony, held today, was attended by top football dignitaries including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, CAF President Patrice Motsepe, and Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

Strategically located next to the state-of-the-art Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, this new branch will serve as a vital hub for coordinating FIFA’s development programs across North and West Africa. The office is expected to play a key role in fostering collaboration between football federations, supporting grassroots initiatives, and promoting high-performance training across the region.

During the ceremony, Fouzi Lekjaa highlighted the broader vision behind the project. “This office is part of a long-term plan to turn Morocco into a hub for football excellence,” he said. “It’s a continuation of a strategy launched more than two decades ago by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.”

The move signals a strong commitment by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strengthen infrastructure, governance, and talent development on the continent. With Morocco’s growing role in international football, including its successful hosting of major tournaments and joint bid for the 2030 World Cup, this latest development further cements its position as a leader in African football.

As FIFA continues to decentralize and localize its global operations, the Rabat office will act as a crucial link between Zurich and the footballing heart of Africa.
