The Volta Region recorded the lowest share of armed robbery cases in Ghana between 2023 and 2026, accounting for 0.9 percent of national incidents.
Crime-trend data from that period show that most cases were concentrated in Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central and Eastern regions. Greater Accra and Ashanti regularly ranked among the highest, while Central and Eastern also remained major hotspots.
Volta was grouped with other low-incident regions such as Northern, Western North, Bono East and Ahafo, which generally accounted for between 0.9 percent and 3 percent of cases. On that scale, Volta recorded the smallest share.
The figure does not mean the region had no crime. Isolated robberies still occurred, including cases involving commercial riders. It does mean Volta was not a national hotspot compared with Accra, Kumasi and parts of the Central Region.
Nationally, armed robbery remained a serious concern. About 628 cases were recorded in the first half of 2025 alone, and gun-related crimes rose sharply in early 2025. By March 2026, however, the Interior Minister reported a 5.1 percent drop in armed robbery cases in the latest review period, with highway robbery falling from 312 to 228 cases.
Volta’s relatively low numbers have been linked to sustained security operations, including joint patrols and public reassurance campaigns by regional authorities. Officials say maintaining that record will depend on continued policing, community cooperation and vigilance along border and highway routes.
