American YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, has completed a nearly $10 million village in Ghana named Abna Dakwa Village. The project, shown in his September 19 video I Built A City To Save Kids From Illegal Labor, aims to reduce illegal child labor on cacao farms.
The village includes a school for more than 300 students, 10 teacher homes, a marketplace, a football field, a clinic, solar power, clean water and a farm. Students will receive free meals for five years with support from The Rockefeller Foundation.
Cacao is the crop used to make chocolate. Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire produce most of the world’s supply, and more than 1.5 million children in the region work on farms instead of attending school. The village is meant to give families housing, food, water and education so children can stay in class.
The build followed a year of planning and eight months of construction, with partners including the Varkey Foundation and global creators such as Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya. It continues earlier MrBeast projects in Ghana, including rebuilt schools and teacher housing.
