Ghana has been upgraded to Tier 1 in the 2026 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, published by the United States, in recognition of the country’s efforts to combat human trafficking.
The upgrade reflects Ghana’s progress in prosecuting human traffickers, protecting victims and tackling exploitation schemes.
The annual TIP Report assesses the efforts of governments around the world to prevent human trafficking, hold offenders accountable and provide support for victims.
In a statement announcing the report, the United States highlighted its partnership with Ghana in the fight against human trafficking, stressing the importance of preventing the crime and supporting survivors.
The United States also reaffirmed its commitment to working with Ghana to strengthen efforts to end human trafficking.
Ghana’s Tier 1 classification places it among countries whose governments are assessed as fully meeting the minimum standards for eliminating human trafficking under the US Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
The upgrade represents recognition of Ghana’s anti-trafficking efforts, although continued action remains important to prevent exploitation, protect vulnerable people and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
