In a decisive ruling that brings a long-awaited sense of justice to a brutal crime, two men have been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each for their roles in a violent armed robbery that took place in Atonsu Kuwait, Kumasi.
The Incident
In the early hours of July 31, 2021, at around 2:30 a.m., residents of Atonsu Kuwait were shaken by a violent home invasion. A five-member gang — armed with a pistol and cutlasses — broke into a private residence. During the invasion, the attackers shot the homeowner in the abdomen and inflicted multiple cutlass wounds before robbing him of several valuable items.
Among the stolen items were:

The attack was not only financially devastating for the victim but left him seriously injured and traumatized.
The Arrests and Investigation
Following a swift investigation by the Ghana Police Service, Abass Kasim (26) was arrested on August 12, 2021. During questioning, he confessed to his involvement and led authorities to the arrest of his accomplice, Daniel Morro a.k.a. “China” (25).
A pistol used in the attack was also recovered as part of the investigation. However, the remaining three suspects are still at large and police efforts to track them down continue.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
Kasim and Morro were first arraigned before Kumasi Circuit Court 4 on August 19, 2021, where they initially pleaded not guilty. After nearly four years of legal proceedings, the two were found guilty on multiple counts and sentenced on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

Conspiracy to commit robbery Robbery Unlawful entry Abetment of crime Possession of firearms without authority
Both were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.
The convicts have since been transferred to Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving their time.
A Cautionary Tale
This case serves as a strong message against violent crime and the illegal possession of firearms. While justice has been served for two of the culprits, police continue to pursue the remaining accomplices.
