The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) is in mourning following the death of senior lecturer Prof. Mawuadem Koku Amedeker. He was reported missing on May 21, 2025, after concerned colleagues couldn’t reach him and alerted the police.
Upon visiting Prof. Amedeker’s residence, police encountered Joshua Karry Arthur, an ex-convict, who claimed the professor was traveling and had asked him to watch the house. However, police grew suspicious and a search of the property revealed bloodstains leading to a sand heap about 23 meters away. Underneath the sand, they discovered a body believed to be Prof. Amedeker.
Arthur has been arrested in connection with the murder. Some residents have claimed that Arthur may be mentally unstable. The investigation is ongoing.
