Takoradi: Police arrest man for allegedly stabbing his 17-year-old brother to death over broken padlock at Mampong

A heartbreaking incident has shaken the Mampong community in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region, where a 17-year-old boy, Francis Mensah, was allegedly stabbed to death by his elder brother, Anthony Acquah.

According to a statement from the Western Regional Police Command, the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, following a heated argument between the siblings. Reports suggest that the confrontation was sparked by a broken padlock, after the younger brother allegedly forced entry into his elder brother’s room in search of his missing phone.

Community chief linguist, Nana Kwamena Famanyame, explained that the siblings lived with their mother and stepfather. He recounted that when Anthony returned to find his room broken into, he became enraged and fatally stabbed Francis.

Following the incident, the suspect fled and went into hiding. However, acting on intelligence, police arrested him on August 20 at Kojokrom, near Sekondi. Superintendent Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement dated August 21, 2025.

Anthony Acquah is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, as police continue their inquiries into the case.

This tragic incident has left the Mampong community in shock, highlighting the devastating consequences of unresolved domestic conflicts.
