South Africa is in mourning today as we remember Cornal Hendricks, the former Springbok wing, who has passed away far too soon at the age of 37. President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his condolences, saying his thoughts are with Hendricks’ family, friends, former teammates, and all those touched by his remarkable life.
Hendricks’ journey was one of perseverance and inspiration. An alumnus of Bergrivier Secondary School in Wellington, he overcame significant odds to pursue his passion for rugby. From his starring role with the Boland Cavaliers to representing South Africa on the international stage with both the Sevens team and the Springbok XV, Cornal made us proud. He also left his mark with the Cheetahs and Bulls, showcasing his talent and dedication at every turn.
Beyond his achievements on the field, Cornal was committed to making a difference in his community through the Cornal Hendricks Foundation. His life, though cut short, was filled with personal achievement and social impact. We will remember him with pride and appreciation. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he inspired, both on and off the rugby field.
