Nigerian ‘Tech Queen’ Sapphire Egemasi Faces 20 years in US prison over multimillion dollar Fraud

The fraud operation, allegedly spearheaded by Samuel Kwadwo Osei, involved the creation of spoof websites that mimicked those of legitimate US government agencies. These deceptive sites were used to pilfer login credentials and reroute funds, resulting in substantial financial losses between September 2021 and February 2023. The success of their scheme underscores the growing sophistication of cybercriminals and the challenges faced by law enforcement in combating such activities.

In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, US authorities have arrested Nigerian national Sapphire Egemasi, dubbed the ‘Tech Queen,’ and her Ghanaian counterpart, Samuel Kwadwo Osei, for their involvement in a multi-million dollar internet fraud scheme. The duo is accused of targeting US agencies through sophisticated methods, leading to their apprehension and pending trial in Lexington, Kentucky.

Currently in custody, Egemasi and Osei face severe penalties, including up to 20 years’ imprisonment each, followed by imminent deportation. Their case serves as a stern warning to cybercriminals worldwide, highlighting the collaborative efforts of international law enforcement agencies to track down and prosecute those engaged in online fraud. As the digital landscape evolves, so too must the strategies and resources dedicated to safeguarding against cyber threats and ensuring justice for victims of online crime.
