NDC to Rename Party HQ ‘Jerry Rawlings House’ in Honor of Founding Father

In a move that blends deep symbolism with political heritage, Ghana’s largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced plans to rename its national headquarters “Jerry Rawlings House,” in honor of its founder and Ghana’s former president, Jerry John Rawlings.

The decision, according to party insiders, is aimed at preserving the legacy of a man who not only founded the NDC but played a transformative role in Ghana’s democratic journey.

Honoring a Revolutionary Legacy

Jerry Rawlings remains one of Ghana’s most iconic—and complex—political figures. From leading a military junta to championing democratic reforms and multi-party elections, Rawlings left an indelible mark on Ghana’s political history.

As the founder of the NDC in 1992, Rawlings led the party through its formative years, establishing it as a dominant political force. Naming the party headquarters after him is not just a tribute—it’s a statement of continuity, respect, and identity.

A Home for His Vision

The NDC headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, has long served as a nerve center for the party’s operations. With this renaming, it is set to become more than just an administrative building—it will now stand as a monument to Rawlings’ ideals: grassroots empowerment, social justice, and unwavering patriotism.

Party General Secretary Fifi Kwetey reportedly stated that the renaming reflects the NDC’s commitment to “honor the man whose vision birthed the party and guided its ethos.”

Final Thoughts

With this move, the NDC is not just preserving the past—it is reclaiming it. Naming the headquarters after Jerry Rawlings signals that his vision still matters, and that the spirit he ignited in the 1990s continues to guide the party’s path.

The political building may remain in the same place, but now, it carries a name that echoes across Ghana’s modern political history: Jerry Rawlings House.
