Matchroom Boxing is heading to Ghana for the first time, with a show officially scheduled for December 20, 2025, in the capital, Accra.
Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the event and revealed it will serve as a precursor to a possible Anthony Joshua fight in Ghana, targeted for February 2026. While Joshua will not be on the December card, Hearn said the event will help test logistics and partnerships on the ground.
“This will not be an AJ show, but it’s still going to be a good show,” Hearn told The Ring. “The idea is to get the lay of the land ahead of something bigger.”
The move follows exploratory talks and a site visit by Matchroom CEO Frank Smith in August, which Hearn said left the team impressed.
If confirmed, the February bout would mark Anthony Joshua’s debut fight on African soil — a major milestone for both the boxer and the sport in Ghana.
