Light Aircraft Crashes onto Golf Course in Shocking Emergency Landing

A light single-engine aircraft made an emergency landing this afternoon, 17 August, at the Mona Vale Golf Course in New South Wales, Australia. The plane, identified as a Piper Cherokee, was being flown by a flight instructor and a student pilot during a training flight when suspected engine trouble forced the landing.

Eyewitnesses reported the aircraft came in low with no visible propeller movement or engine sound. The pilot managed to bring the plane down across the 15th fairway in what witnesses described as a “gentle, textbook landing.”

Both occupants—men in their 50s—were treated on the scene for minor injuries, including facial lacerations, and were transported to Royal North Shore Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is now investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the emergency landing.
