Kofi Adjorlolo Defends Igbo King, Highlights His Role in Ghana’s Film Industry

Veteran Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo has publicly defended the King of the Igbo community in Ghana, Eze Chuckwudi Jude Ihenetu, following backlash surrounding an incident at the Manhyia Palace during the burial rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom.

Reports claimed the Igbo King was stopped by the Asantehene’s linguist from shaking hands with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, sparking widespread criticism and debate. However, in a recent interview, both the King and Adjorlolo have denied any disrespect or breach of protocol.

Adjorlolo praised the Igbo King’s longstanding contributions to Ghana’s film industry, describing him as a generous figure who has supported countless actors and filmmakers—often offering his residence, vehicles, and personal resources to movie productions.

The actor also pushed back against the narrative that Nollywood is solely responsible for the success of Ghanaian actors, stating, “It’s wrong to claim Nollywood made Ghanaian actors famous.”

Despite the controversy, Adjorlolo’s remarks have drawn attention to the often-overlooked contributions of community leaders like Eze Ihenetu to Ghana’s creative industry.
