The Kumasi High Court has sentenced Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah, popularly known as Maa Adwoa.
The tragic incident occurred in April 2023 at Adum in Kumasi, where the officer allegedly shot the 26-year-old multiple times with his service pistol following a dispute over a GH¢5,000 debt. The shocking act, which was captured on CCTV, sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across Ghana.
Inspector Twumasi was later arrested in Sekyere near Effiduase after going into hiding for several days. During the trial, he claimed that the deceased owed him the money and had refused to repay it. However, the court found him guilty of murder and handed him a life sentence.
The verdict brings a measure of justice to Maa Adwoa’s family and serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of violence and abuse in relationships.
