Ghana’s Minister for Health Confirms 107 COVID-19 Cases at University of Ghana

Accra, Ghana – Health officials have confirmed a significant COVID-19 outbreak at the University of Ghana, raising concerns about the spread of the virus within the academic community. The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, announced today that 107 cases have been identified among 316 suspected individuals tested at the university.

The confirmation came after a working visit to the school’s health facilities, where the Minister assessed the situation firsthand. The outbreak underscores the ongoing challenges in managing the pandemic, even as vaccination efforts continue.

University authorities are working closely with health officials to implement measures to contain the spread, including increased testing, contact tracing, and isolation protocols. Students and staff are urged to adhere to safety guidelines, including mask-wearing, social distancing, and frequent handwashing, to protect themselves and others.

The outbreak at the University of Ghana serves as a reminder of the continued need for vigilance and adherence to public health measures in order to curb the spread of COVID-19. Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
