Ghanaian journalist Godwin Asediba has been named the winner of the 2025 BBC News Komla Dumor Award. The 29-year-old investigative reporter, filmmaker, and news anchor becomes the 10th recipient of the prestigious award, which honours exceptional African journalists.
Asediba, who works with TV3 and 3FM in Ghana, is known for his powerful human-interest stories that spotlight injustice and amplify marginalized voices. His work has been featured by several international broadcasters, with notable investigations such as a report on the neglect of one of Ghana’s largest mortuaries.
“This is not just a personal milestone,” Asediba said. “It’s a call to carry forward the spirit of journalism that informs, inspires, and transforms.”
The award was established in memory of Komla Dumor, a celebrated Ghanaian BBC World News presenter who passed away in 2014. Dumor was known for telling African stories with depth, dignity, and integrity.
As part of the award, Asediba will spend three months in London working with BBC News teams across TV, radio, and online, and will receive mentoring from top BBC journalists. He will also travel to an African country to report a story for the BBC’s global audience.
The BBC praised Asediba’s strong journalistic values, with judges highlighting his commitment to integrity and impactful storytelling.
