Accra, August 4, 2025 — The Ghana Police Service has uncovered a major international vehicle theft and smuggling operation involving luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce, Audi, Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. These high-end vehicles, stolen from various countries across Europe and North America, were illegally imported into Ghana, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has revealed.
Speaking at a press conference, Director General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, attributed the breakthrough to enhanced collaboration between Ghanaian authorities and international law enforcement agencies.
“The administration has stepped up efforts to fight vehicle crime by working in close collaboration with national agencies like the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and international partners such as INTERPOL and the FBI,” she stated.
The strengthened partnerships have allowed for timely sharing of intelligence on stolen vehicles and the transnational criminal networks involved. Investigations have shown that these networks are also engaged in a broader range of serious crimes, including money laundering, insurance fraud, identity theft, and Visa card fraud.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling these criminal enterprises and warned that anyone involved in importing or buying stolen vehicles will face the full force of the law. The operation marks a significant step in the country’s fight against organized crime and international vehicle theft.
