French President Emmanuel Macron found himself walking through the streets of New York for over 30 minutes after being stopped by police while returning from a speech at the United Nations. The disruption occurred due to a security lockdown ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s motorcade.
In video footage captured by French media outlet Brut, Macron is seen stepping out of his vehicle to speak with NYPD officers. “I’m sorry, president… everything has been frozen,” an officer tells him. Macron, looking down the empty street, responds, “I don’t see it, let me cross.”
Amused but undeterred, Macron reportedly called Trump directly, laughing: “Guess what? I’m waiting in the street because everything is frozen for you.” Ultimately, he was allowed to proceed—on foot.
Accompanied by his security team, Macron walked approximately half an hour to the French consulate. Along the way, he greeted pedestrians, posed for photos, and even received a forehead kiss from an enthusiastic passerby.
The incident followed his powerful speech at the UN, where he called for an end to the war in Gaza and urged international recognition of a Palestinian state in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.
“The time has come to do justice for the Palestinian people,” Macron declared.
