Fifteen Saviour Church Members Lose Their Lives in Gory Head-On Collision with Fuel Tanker on Accra-Kumasi Highway After Annual Church Meeting

A heartbreaking tragedy struck on Monday, July 28, 2025, as 15 members of the Saviour Church of Ghana lost their lives in a devastating accident at Atwedie, along the Accra-Kumasi Highway. The victims were reportedly returning from their annual church meeting in the Eastern Region when the fatal incident occurred.

The Accident

According to initial reports, the mini bus transporting the church members collided head-on with a fuel tanker, resulting in a gory and catastrophic crash. Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with emergency services working tirelessly to rescue survivors and recover bodies from the mangled wreckage.

Although investigations are still underway, sources suggest that high speed and poor visibility may have contributed to the crash. The identities of the deceased are yet to be officially released, but authorities have confirmed that all 15 victims were church members returning from a religious event.

A Nation in Mourning

The tragic loss has sent shockwaves across the nation, especially within the religious community and among families and friends of the victims. Messages of condolences have begun pouring in from religious leaders, local officials, and members of the public, as the country once again mourns lives lost on one of its busiest highways.

A Recurring Nightmare on the Accra-Kumasi Highway

This latest accident adds to the growing number of fatal road crashes that continue to plague the Accra-Kumasi Highway, one of Ghana’s most critical transport corridors. Over the years, the highway has seen a worrying trend of deadly collisions, many of which have been attributed to reckless driving, poor road conditions, and inadequate enforcement of traffic regulations.

Calls are once again being made for the government and relevant stakeholders to implement stricter safety measures, improve road infrastructure, and ensure better monitoring to prevent future tragedies.
