Ex-Crystal Palace Defender Michael Kwame Adusei Boateng Jailed 14 Years for Drug Trafficking

Former Crystal Palace footballer Michael Kwame Adusei Boateng has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his key role in a major drug trafficking operation in the UK. The 34-year-old, who once showed promise on the pitch, now faces a lengthy prison term after being caught with nearly 20kg of crystal meth.

Boateng was arrested on Valentine’s Day in 2024, when authorities seized 19.7 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine—a haul valued between £1.18 million and £2.36 million. His involvement in the operation was described by prosecutors as “significant and deliberate.”

This isn’t Boateng’s first brush with the law. In 2014, he served a 16-month sentence and received a lifetime ban from football following his conviction for attempted match-fixing fraud—a scandal that rocked English football at the time.

Boateng’s story is a cautionary tale of talent squandered, marking a dramatic fall from grace. Once a promising defender with a future in professional football, he is now known for his criminal record rather than his sporting achievements.
