Damongo Teacher Threatens to Kill Himself After Losing GHS400,000 in Forex Trading

A professional teacher in Damongo, Savannah Region, is threatening to take his own life after losing almost GHS400,000 — his entire life savings — to online forex trading.

According to those close to him, the teacher had ventured into forex trading about three to four years ago, and initially made promising profits. Encouraged by early success, he began investing more heavily, using savings, income from his thriving electrical shop, and later, personal and family assets.

But what began as a hopeful financial venture ended in devastating loss.

From Hope to Despair

When the losses began, the teacher made desperate attempts to recover. He sold off inventory from his shop, rented out the business space, and injected every cedi he could find back into the market.

As the losses mounted, he began selling personal belongings and ultimately, a piece of family land — without informing his parents. The land sale was discovered recently, and the backlash from his family has been intense, leaving him emotionally shattered.

Now facing debt, shame, and total financial ruin, the once-respected teacher has reportedly told friends and loved ones that he sees no reason to continue living. He has apologised to his parents and the community, expressing feelings of deep regret and emotional exhaustion.

Community Shocked

The teacher was widely admired for his dedication to students and his contributions to the local community. He supported needy learners, offered free tutoring, and ran a successful business that many looked up to.

His sudden decline has left many shocked and concerned, with calls growing for mental health intervention and community support.

Forex Trading and Mental Health: A Hidden Crisis

This tragic situation is shedding light on a growing but often unspoken issue in Ghana — the mental health consequences of financial loss through risky investment schemes.

Forex trading is often marketed as a quick path to wealth, but without proper knowledge, support, or risk management, many people end up facing severe emotional and financial consequences.

If You’re Struggling, You’re Not Alone

This teacher’s story is a painful reminder that behind financial problems can lie deep emotional wounds. Mental health support must become a priority, not a taboo.

If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts or emotional distress, please seek help. Contact the Mental Health Authority of Ghana at:
