Court Grants Ken Ofori-Atta Two-Week Extension to Contest Arrest Warrant Issued by Special Prosecutor

Former Ghanaian Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has secured a two-week extension from the High Court in Accra to challenge an arrest warrant issued against him by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). The warrant, originally granted ex parte on February 12, 2025, had expired before Ofori-Atta’s legal team could file an appeal.

Presiding Judge Justice Ruby Aryeetey approved the extension despite strong objections from the OSP. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers argued that unique and unforeseen circumstances had hindered their ability to respond within the original timeframe.

The court’s decision now permits the former minister’s legal team to file the appropriate legal processes within the two-week grace period, setting the stage for a formal challenge to the OSP’s actions. This development marks a significant turn in the legal standoff between the former finance minister and the anti-corruption office.
