A joint security operation to remove squatters behind the Dominase Onion Market in Gomoa East, Central Region, turned tragic when one man was found dead and three security officers were injured. The operation, carried out by the Gomoa East District Security Council and the Central East Regional Police Command, aimed to address a rise in armed robberies along the Kasoa–Winneba Highway.
During the demolition, a young man was discovered lifeless in one of the structures after residents had been instructed to evacuate. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, but it is suspected he may have entered the building unnoticed.
The situation escalated when squatters, described as ‘ghetto boys’, retaliated against the assembly officials and security personnel. Armed with cutlasses, stones, and sticks, they attacked, preventing the injured man from receiving immediate medical attention. The injured officers were initially treated at local clinics before being transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for further care.
