Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo Removed from Office

In a significant development, Chief Justice Her Ladyship Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo has been removed from office with immediate effect.

This decision follows the submission of a report by a committee constituted under Article 146(6) of the Ghanaian Constitution. The committee was tasked with investigating a petition filed by a citizen, Mr. Daniel Ofori, citing stated misbehaviour under Article 146(1).

After reviewing the evidence, the committee found merit in the allegations and recommended her removal. In line with Article 146(9), the President acted on the committee’s recommendation, leading to the Chief Justice’s dismissal.
