Attorney General Warns: Chairman Wontumi Will Be Arrested if He Fails to Appear by Monday

Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has issued a stern directive to Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, demanding that he present himself to the authorities by Monday in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged illegal mining activities by Akonta Mining Ltd.

Speaking in a firm tone during a recent media engagement, Dr. Ayine made it clear that the government is taking the matter seriously. “I have ordered Chairman Wontumi to show up on Monday. Should he not, I will order his arrest,” he stated.

Akonta Mining Ltd, a company linked to Chairman Wontumi, has been at the center of public scrutiny following accusations of operating unlawfully in protected forest reserves. The Attorney General’s latest statement signals a significant move toward enforcing accountability in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known in Ghana as galamsey.

This development adds a new layer of urgency to the ongoing environmental and legal debate surrounding illegal mining operations in the country. The public now waits to see if Chairman Wontumi will comply—or face arrest as warned.
