Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says two men have been extradited to the United States to face charges over alleged online sexual exploitation and sextortion of two teenage boys. Mudashiru Afeez Olawale and Adebola Festus Adekunle were extradited on Wednesday, August 26, following investigations by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The EFCC said the men allegedly targeted male minors aged between 13 and 17, using child sexual abuse material to extort victims through money transfers, gift cards and cryptocurrency. The FBI linked the suspects to separate cases involving two American teenagers who died by suicide after allegedly being subjected to online sexual exploitation and extortion. The EFCC said extradition proceedings against Olawale began in 2024 after a request from the FBI. Although the Federal High Court initially rejected the application, the Court of Appeal overturned the decision on July 7, 2026, clearing the way for his extradition. The EFCC said the case highlights continued cooperation between Nigerian and US authorities in tackling cross-border internet crimes involving the exploitation of minors.
