A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detection dog has helped intercept approximately 72 pounds of prohibited yams, vegetables and spices from Ghana at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York.

The agricultural products were discovered during a routine inspection by CBP officers, with K9 Rowdy, a trained detection dog, assisting in identifying the prohibited items.

CBP seized the products as part of measures to prevent the introduction of agricultural pests and diseases that could pose risks to U.S. crops and agriculture.

The seizure highlights the role of CBP’s agricultural inspection operations at U.S. ports of entry, where officers screen incoming luggage and cargo for restricted plant and animal products.
