President Mahama Grants Amnesty to 998 Prisoners

President John Dramani Mahama has granted amnesty to 998 prisoners, following recommendations by the Prisons Service Council and consultations with the Council of State, in line with Article 72(1) of Ghana’s Constitution.

Out of 1,014 convicts recommended, 998 were approved for release. The move is part of ongoing efforts to decongest Ghana’s prisons and offer deserving inmates a second chance.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and spokesperson to the President, confirmed the decision, stating it reflects the government’s commitment to upholding justice and human dignity.

Details on the categories of inmates affected by the amnesty will be released by the Prisons Service.
