End Weeding as Punishment – It Makes Students Lose Interest in Farming, Says Julius Debrah

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has called on school authorities to stop using weeding as a form of punishment, arguing that it discourages students from developing an interest in agriculture. Speaking on the issue, Debrah emphasized that associating farming-related tasks with punishment creates negative perceptions about farming among young people.

He appealed for a shift in disciplinary methods that do not stigmatize agriculture, especially as the nation looks to empower youth through agribusiness. “If we want the next generation to embrace farming, we must not make it seem like a punishment,” Debrah stated.

This call aligns with broader efforts to rebrand agriculture as a viable and attractive career path for students across Ghana.
