Tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced his departure from President Donald Trump’s administration, where he spearheaded a project aimed at cutting costs within the federal government.

In a post on X, Musk stated, “As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.” He also expressed confidence in the future of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), saying, “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”

A White House official has confirmed that Musk’s departure aligns with the 130-day limit for special government employees. During his tenure, Musk aimed to cut at least $1 trillion from the US federal budget. While the DOGE website reports savings of approximately $175 billion, translating to $1,088.96 per US taxpayer, the White House has affirmed that efforts to cut federal spending and restructure the government will persist.
