Afrobeats superstar Davido, born David Adeleke, has officially joined the Recording Academy as a voting member, marking a major milestone in his musical career and global influence. The announcement was made via an Instagram video posted by the Academy on Tuesday.
As a voting member, Davido will participate in one of the most significant roles within the Grammy Awards process—reviewing submissions, nominating, and ultimately voting on Grammy winners. This development comes as the Academy prepares for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, set to take place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Davido joins an esteemed group of new voting members, including Offset, Ravyn Lenae, Jessie Reyez, and Zac Brown, among others. He also joins fellow Nigerians like Laycon, Oxlade, Tito Da Fire, Praiz, and music executive Bizzle Osikoya, who became voting members in earlier years.
To qualify, candidates must be active music professionals with credits on at least six commercially released tracks within the last five years, along with demonstrated industry involvement. Membership applications undergo a rigorous review process before being approved by the Academy’s Board of Trustees.
Reflecting on his selection, Davido shared his excitement:
