11 Injured in Mass Stabbing at Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan

At least 11 people were injured in a stabbing incident at a Walmart supermarket in Traverse City, Michigan, authorities confirmed. The attack happened on Saturday and left the community shaken.

A 42-year-old suspect, a Michigan resident, was taken into custody shortly after the incident. According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, the man used a folding knife during the attack. Sheriff Michael Shea described the event as a random act of violence.

The suspect was apprehended with the help of shoppers and employees at the store who also assisted in providing first aid to the victims before emergency responders arrived. Sheriff Shea praised the quick and coordinated efforts of the citizens and law enforcement.

The nearby Munson Medical Center reported treating 11 victims, with five in serious condition and six in critical condition. The hospital said its emergency department is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual number of patients due to the incident.

Video footage shared online shows multiple police and ambulance units responding to the scene at the Walmart parking lot. The FBI has also sent personnel to support local authorities in the investigation.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her concern over the incident, stating she was in contact with law enforcement and extended her thoughts to the victims and the affected community.

Traverse City is located about 255 miles northwest of Detroit. The investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing as authorities work to understand more about the circumstances behind this tragic event.
