In a bold move that’s catching global attention, a 20-year-old man has declared a new micronation in an unclaimed strip of land between Croatia and Serbia. Calling it “Liberland,” he has named himself president and claims the territory under international law as terra nullius — land that legally belongs to no one.

The founder says the nation already has around 400 self-declared citizens from around the world who support its vision of minimal government, personal freedom, and low taxes.

The land, a 7-square-kilometer area along the Danube River, has long been left unclaimed due to border disputes between Croatia and Serbia. While neither country currently recognizes the claim, the declaration has sparked curiosity and debate across social media and diplomatic circles.

Whether Liberland gains any official recognition remains uncertain, but its founder is pushing forward with big plans for what he calls “Europe’s newest free nation.”
