U.S. Court Sentences Lagos-Based Fraudster to 33 Months in Prison

A U.S. federal court has sentenced Daniel Chima Inweregbu, a Lagos-based internet fraudster, to 33 months (2 years and 9 months) in prison for his involvement in wire fraud and romance scam operations.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the 40-year-old was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nanette Jolivette Brown. In addition to the prison term, the court ordered three years of supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and $166,400 in restitution to victims.

The sentencing marks another step in U.S. efforts to combat international cybercrime and romance scams targeting unsuspecting victims.
