Trump to Allow 600,000 Chinese Students into U.S. Amid Trade Talks with Beijing

President Donald Trump has announced plans to welcome up to 600,000 Chinese students into the United States to pursue higher education, calling it an important move despite ongoing trade negotiations with Beijing.

“There are so many stories that we’re not going to allow their students,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “We’re going to allow their students to come in. It’s very important — 600,000 students. But we’re going to get along with China.”

Currently, around 270,000 Chinese students are enrolled in U.S. universities. While Trump didn’t specify a timeline for the expansion, the announcement signals a potential shift in U.S.-China education relations.

This move also follows earlier comments from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who had proposed stricter visa rules for Chinese nationals, particularly young students. Trump’s latest stance appears to soften that approach, highlighting the importance of educational exchange even amid tense trade discussions.
