Washington, D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing the Department of Justice to prosecute individuals who burn the American flag, stating they will face up to one year in jail.
Speaking after the signing, Trump said, “I think our nation now is the most respected nation anywhere in the world by far.” He added, “They call me the president of Europe, which is an honor.”
The move has sparked renewed debate over freedom of expression versus patriotism and national respect, with critics expected to challenge the legality of the order in court.
