Hamas has announced the imminent release of Edan Alexander, the last known living American hostage in Gaza, signaling a potential breakthrough in the ongoing conflict. This development follows communication between Hamas and the US administration, with Hamas’ negotiating team head noting “high positivity” in recent talks.

The release is anticipated as a step toward a ceasefire, which would see the reopening of Gaza’s crossings and the influx of humanitarian aid after a prolonged Israeli blockade. Hamas has expressed its readiness to engage in intensive negotiations to reach a final agreement, aiming to halt the war, exchange prisoners, and establish an independent body to manage the Gaza Strip.

While the release could occur as early as Monday, sources suggest Tuesday is more likely. Steve Witkoff, the Trump administration’s Middle East envoy, is expected to arrive in Tel Aviv ahead of Alexander’s release, though he clarified that the talks with Hamas were indirect. This news offers a ray of hope amid the brutal conflict, with the potential to pave the way for further de-escalation and humanitarian relief.
