The Trump administration is now incentivizing immigrants in the U.S. illegally to voluntarily return to their home countries by offering $1,000 plus travel assistance. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stated that those who use the CBP Home app to declare their intention to leave will be given lower priority for detention and deportation.

Secretary Kristi Noem has emphasized that self-deportation is the safest and most cost-effective way for immigrants to avoid arrest, and the DHS is providing financial support through the CBP Home app to facilitate this process. As part of the initiative, the DHS has already funded a migrant’s flight from Chicago to Honduras and has plans to book more flights in the near future.

This move marks a significant development in the administration’s immigration strategy, combining financial incentives with technological tools to encourage voluntary compliance with deportation efforts. The program aims to streamline the process of reducing the number of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. while minimizing the need for enforcement actions.
