LONDON — July 4, 2025
Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three different women, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian international is accused of carrying out the offences between 2021 and 2022, during his time as a Premier League player. The charges were filed following a lengthy investigation that began in February 2022, after police first received a report of rape.
Breakdown of Allegations
According to authorities:
Partey faces three counts of rape against one woman, Two additional counts of rape against a second woman, and One count of sexual assault against a third complainant.
All three women have cooperated with police and are being supported throughout the legal process.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the investigation, said:
“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. These are serious allegations, and we’re committed to pursuing them thoroughly and fairly.”
Career in Uncertainty After Arsenal Exit
Partey’s contract with Arsenal expired on June 30 and was not renewed, making him a free agent just days before the charges were confirmed. The club has not released a public statement regarding the case.
Signed by Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for a reported £45 million, Partey was seen as a key part of the club’s midfield until recent injuries and off-pitch concerns disrupted his role.
With his court appearance scheduled for August 5, the next legal steps will determine whether the case moves toward a full trial. If convicted, the charges carry serious legal consequences and could end his footballing career entirely.
